Veterinary prophylaxis – all procedures needed to protect an animal from infection of infectious or parasitic diseases and to prevent other diseases. Veterinary prophylaxis can be divided into the following groups
- Preventive dehelmintisation – pharmaceuticals from helminths (worms) are given as a preventive measure.
- Prophylaxis from infectious diseases – prophylactic vaccination.
- Prophylaxis from infections of ectoparasites (fleas, ticks).
- Prophylactic inspection of an animal helps to prevent diseases and to delay their progression.
